Marimba Project Day 1 September 3, 2009

Filed under: Making a Bass Marimba! — PFES Music @ 11:34 pm

We started today with the marimba project.  All of the tone bars (all 18 of them) needed to be tuned!  Under the expert tutelage of Mr. Brent Holl, we began the day with half of the 5th grade.  They got us off to a great start. They were using mallet and chisels to notch out the tone bars,  By taking out wood from the middle of the bar, the pitch is lowered. Cool huh?!  4th graders and about 1/2 the 3rd grade also did the chiseling of the bars.

Our Kinders, 1st, and 2nd grades also go in on the action.  They were our quality control agents.  They sanded and polished all of the bars.  They are looking great.

We had many parents and grandparents that at joined in on the fun!  Thank you all so much for adding to the great day! The kids loved having you all there.

Extra special thank you to Ms. Cottrill who took many pictures through out the day and Mrs. Maria Eakin (our student teacher in music) for surviving the sun and providing excellent direction to the kids!

I will upload some pictures tomorrow!

Can’t to start again tomorrow!
